Who Are We?
We are BAMILEK – our name derives from the Cameroonian tribe Bamiléké.
Our work centres curating experiences for the African Diaspora, and those who walk alongside us, in hopes of reconnecting with our cultural roots.
You see everything we do is about building spaces where culture is not simply performed, but is lived, worn + celebrated.
BAMILEK exists to allow us to move, listen + return to ourselves. Movement becomes memory + community feels familiar, nurturing + rooted.
Offering resources that honour African traditions while creating room for joy, healing + belonging in the present moment.
What we’re building here is slow + intentional.
Without you there, it doesn't work.
Why We Move
Across Africa, dance has always been more than performance. It is how stories are carried, how memory lives in the body, how communities gather.
Our workshops invite people to experience Afro dance as a living practice — one that supports wellbeing, cultural connection + collective care.
No mirrors. No pressure. Just rhythm, movement + shared presence.
Our spaces are about:
MOVEMENT AS WELLBEING
JOY AS RESISTANCE
COMMUNITY AS MEDICINE
TRADITION AS LIVING KNOWLEDGE
